Janet Pause & Associates (“JPA”) is an executive search firm and collects a variety of personal data necessary to provide such services in a proprietary and confidential database accessible only by JPA.

Disclosures of Personal Information: We do not sell or rent your information to third parties and do not share your personally identifiable information with others, except as follows: we freely share your information within JPA; we may share your information as required by law or in the interest of protecting or exercising our or others’ legal rights, for example, in connection with court proceedings or requests from law enforcement officials.

The data we collect and how we use it

If you are engaged with us as a potential candidate or otherwise in connection with our delivery of executive search services, please note the following:

Data Collection: To provide our clients with executive search services and communication and for collaboration among team members of JPA, JPA collects and processes information relating to individuals (referred to as “Personal Information”) which typically includes information in a standard resume (e.g., name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, employment history, degree(s) and other qualifications, languages and other skills). It may also include, without limitation: age, nationality and race (only to the extent allowed by law), compensation details, a record of our contact history with you and comments from third parties. Our records derive from information collected directly from you, publicly available sources and third parties.

Data Usage: We will use Personal Information to contact you about executive search assignments conducted for our clients that involve the identification, evaluation and/or selection of qualified candidates. We, or our client, may also provide Personal Information to applicable regulators. In addition, we may also collect demographic information about you to assist our clients in addressing their diversity needs. Depending on how far your candidacy progresses, we will verify the accuracy of Personal Information with regard to academic and professional qualifications, skills and credentials, work performance, and check or confirm references. We understand the sensitive nature of this endeavor, and we will not speak to your current employer without your express permission, but if there is any other individual we should not contact, please inform the JPA consultant with whom you are working or contact us at the address below.

Data Storage: Your information is maintained on JPA’s database, which is secure and accessible only to JPA. Outside the JPA network, your information may also be disclosed on a confidential basis to (a) clients who will also need to process your information for the purposes we have described in this Policy; (b) third parties when required by law; and (c) service providers, but only to the extent necessary to perform work directed by us (such as security services, background checking and other administrative services). Personal Information is retained until the purposes have been fulfilled or otherwise required by law.

Security: Transmissions over the Internet are not completely secure or error-free. We take appropriate measures, however, to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction.

Your Rights: By choosing to provide us with your Personal Information, you indicate your willingness to be considered, when appropriate, for one of JPA’s executive searches. If you do not wish to disclose your Personal Information, JPA will be unable to provide you the services offered by JPA, since employment, educational and other personal information is necessary in order to assess your employment opportunities. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time or to access and request that we rectify or remove your record from our system(s). When asked to remove a record from our database, JPA will retain minimal Personal Information in order to prevent future contact, to keep a record of the information disclosed to our clients and to preserve JPA’s interests in accordance with any applicable legal requirements. About Janet Pause

Janet began her career at Procter & Gamble and moved into the healthcare industry, holding human resources and operations management roles. Janet established Janet Pause & Associates in 1999 and continued to work with a variety of clients in manufacturing, distribution, construction, food service, healthcare, professional services and not-for-profit. She also dedicated five years to a boutique search firm as partner, adding the insurance sector to her portfolio and recruiting North American executives for international positions.

  • Client Consultation & Develop Search Strategy Week 1-2
    • Through discussions with you, our client, we create a position profile that provides a compelling overview of your company to engage potential candidates. This document also describes the role as well as the experience, skills, competencies, qualifications and personal attributes desired in the successful candidate. We establish a research strategy that targets the industries and organizations that will yield the highest-caliber candidates for the role. We tap into our vast network of sources as well as our active database of thousands of successful executives to supplement this fresh research.
  • Recruitment & Assessment Week 2-8
    • When approaching someone on your behalf, it is crucial to be able to engage them in a discussion about your opportunity. Candidates know that we treat conversations with them as confidential, that we respect their time, and that we will not try to make them fit into a position that does not suit their career objectives or personal style. Janet Pause personally interviews all appropriate candidates, using competency and behavioural questions to assess candidates’ suitability and interest. At your discretion, supplemental assessment tests are administered.
  • Client Interviews Week 4-11
    • A short list of top candidates is presented to you for interviewing, accompanied by a written profile on each candidate that provides you with comprehensive information about their qualifications, attributes, and aspirations. Throughout first-round and subsequent interviews with you, Janet is in diligent contact with you and the candidates to ensure clear communication and maintain momentum, a critical component in the success of the search.
  • Selection of Finalist & Offer Week 11-12
    • Once you have selected the finalist candidate, we undertake a complete reference check, including verifying academic degrees and professional designations. A detailed report is submitted to you in writing. Janet Pause assists you in negotiating the structure of the offer and will present the offer on your behalf.
  • Post-hire Ongoing
    • After a candidate has been successfully placed, Janet Pause remains in contact with you and the new hire to foster a smooth integration into the company.

    • There are times when you need to understand how other organizations are structured and who holds key positions in those companies. We map out the organizations you are interested in and provide publicly available information on each individual.
  • Candidate Identification and Recruiting
    • Do you need a pre-selected pool of talent to choose from at your discretion? In collaboration with your organization, we develop the position profile and make direct contact with appropriate candidates to present the opportunity to them. Following our telephone pre-screening discussions, we forward resumes to you for your consideration and followup with those you wish to interview.
  • Internal Executive Assessment
    • We see excellence in many industries and many management styles that individuals use in their roles. This across-the-board expertise gives us unique insight into how effective managers and teams operate. In an Internal Management Assessment, we assess and compare your executives and senior managers with each other as well as across comparable businesses and functions.
  • External Candidate Assessment
    • Many potential employees come to our clients’ attention through unsolicited resumes, referrals, internal postings, media coverage or by word-of-mouth. Clients may be interested in moving forward with one or more of these individuals but want an impartial, experienced opinion on their suitability. Our External Candidate Assessment service allows you to leverage our experience in assessing the qualifications and chemistry of thousands of executives and managers.
  • Reference Checking
    • In those circumstances where you have sourced your own candidate and require a reference check before making an offer of employment, our expertise in thorough and professional reference examination will give you the peace of mind you need to proceed.
  • Candidate Testing
    • We use a statistically validated candidate assessment tool as an adjunct to our interview process. We are certified to assess candidates who have completed the testing and we provide the client with a detailed analysis of the findings. The tool spans the life cycle of talent acquisition, management and development. Beyond recruiting/hiring, it can be used for one or more of the following: performance development, succession planning, executive coaching, team dynamics, and 360 degree performance feedback.
  • Competency Modelling
    • We are certified to develop competency models and work closely with our clients to define Company-specific competencies (knowledge, skills, behaviours and personal attributes) at various levels that are necessary to successfully develop or execute strategy and meet deliverables.
  • Job Postings and Response
    • There is both an art and science to placing effective, compelling job postings. It is also a time-consuming process to review potentially hundreds of responses to an advertisement. As experts in the field of search and placement, we understand the subtleties of a well-worded ad in the correct publications and websites, as well as filtering and deciphering the responses received from these postings. We design and place the posting/ad and review the responses in order to compile a manageable pool of talent from which you may interview.
  • Informal Compensation Surveys
    • Occasionally, clients are interested in knowing more about how their existing compensation levels compare to the marketplace, but do not wish to have a formal, in-depth salary survey done. We can provide this information via our network and from our database.
